Position Summary

The Senior Tax Accountant serves as the lead for key tax functions in the areas of income, indirect, sales and use taxes. The Senior Tax Accountant performs Financial Reporting on accounting and financial projects. The Senior Tax Accountant works with and mentors staff accountants on tax related tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews supporting workpapers and prepares complex deliverables in connection with annual income tax compliance.
  • Leads tax remittance process for income and personal property taxes, reviews real property tax remittances for timely and accurate payments.
  • Supports tax audits and responds to tax notices via explanations and document requests.
  • Monitors and communicates legislative and regulatory tax developments.
  • Supervises company tax functions across income, sales and use, and indirect taxes.
  • Liaises between onshore and offshore teams for sales tax and personal property taxes.
  • Reviews personal property tax returns and works with assessor offices to facilitate timely filing of personal property returns.
  • Files complex sales and use tax, personal property and gross receipt tax returns.
  • Performs tax-related onboarding tasks for new acquisitions: sales tax enrollments, real property tax prorations, and initial personal property tax filings.
  • Develops/implements tax process improvement.
  • Conducts technical research and document findings.
  • Mentors staff on tax tasks: sales and use tax filings, tax payment processing, personal property tax filings, etc.
  • Serves as primary expert on use tax matters related to fixed asset purchases.
  • Completes month-end close activities: account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and clinic analysis.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required; master’s degree is plus.
  • CPA accreditation is a plus.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3-4 years of Tax experience required, preferably in Public Accounting setting.
  • Well-rounded tax background, including exposure to corporate income tax, partnership tax, state and local tax, sales and use tax.
  • Strong communication skills required to present complex information in a clear, digestible manner.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proven success meeting deadlines while producing high quality work.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results.
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal direction from manager to accomplish daily tasks.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills required to complete multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
  • Occasionally moves equipment and supplies weighing up to 15 pounds.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates and collaborates with co-workers in the office.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about the office to meet with employees and utilize office machinery.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with managers at remote locations using email and phone. Must be able to exchange clear, accurate information in these situations.

Technical Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and overall tax concepts with emphasis on income tax.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
